La Timba Loca
... had its beginnings in the city of Boston where its leader, Gonzalo
Grau, upon graduation from of Berklee College of Music had the
urge to break the mold of mainstream Latin music and put together
his own version of "timba," a Latin music style born
in the Cuba of the 90s from the fusion of traditional "son" to
funk and jazz.
With his Venezuelan ancestry as an influence, Gonzalo
and his international team of musicians brought together their
different cultures and influence to give birth to La
Timba Loca's
unique sound; a sound that can only be understood by seeing LTL
live or by watching this video.
In the summer of 2002 they announced
the release of La Timba Loca's first
ever CD production: Mas Allá de
La Habana (Beyond Havana). Their popularity has reached from their
home town to the far ends of the globe as they had the honor of
playing at the Sydney Opera House in Australia for New Year's Eve
2002 as well as sell out the renowned Boston Scullers Jazz Club
two months later.
New York City has also acclaimed the sound of
this band and has requested their presence at major salsa venues
in the great metropolis. Hispanic Magazine says, "Cuba's exuberant
timba style is rendered to fiery perfection by La
Timba Loca, a
band with powerhouse orchestrations and ear-pleasing vocalists
on Más Allá de La Habana. Latin Beat Magazine says, "La
Timba Loca is successful in achieving the right combination of
elements from both the Cuban timba and mainstream salsa."
Mainstream
Latin music has been plagued with a wave of music that has no real
roots in our heritage. La Timba Loca strives to give music lovers
in the USA and the rest of the world a taste of the latest salsa
evolution that is "timba," to give them a choice for
good music.
